Assistant/Associate Professor of Professional Practice in Interactive Media for the School of Communication's Department of Interactive Media The department of Interactive Media at the University of Miami is seeking an assistant or associate professor of professional practice who will bring an interdisciplinary perspective and whose research/creative practice and teaching align with one of the following high-priority areas: immersive media, interaction design, information design, visual design, or game design. The successful candidate will teach a range of courses related to their field of expertise. The typical teaching load is three courses per semester. Small class sizes optimize instructor-student interaction; hands-on activities translate theory into practice. A professor of professional practice is expected to have ongoing real-world industry experience in their domains, to be able to really help students think through some of the challenges and issues they might face in their future jobs. The successful candidate will need to be highly collegial and collaborative with faculty, and we seek candidates with a track record of multidisciplinary collaboration. Required qualifications: A terminal degree or equivalent education and experience in interaction design, human computer interaction, or a related field is required and a demonstrated commitment to teaching and creative and/or scholarly activity. Interest in developing and implementing curricula that address multicultural issues and diversity is especially valued. In addition to teaching, we expect faculty members to take an active role in the recruitment and retention of students, student advising, and departmental and school service.
